Usually when two characters are fated to meet, it is either romantic or comical; in Mamoru's case, it was the later. After Usagi had tossed the legendary paper with the score of "30" and it hit Chiba Mamoru on the head, he told Usagi to study harder. After that, the two characters seemed to always be running into each other, whether it was in their civilian forms or on the battle field. Mamoru is a man "without a past". When he woke up in a hospital as a child, he couldn't remember anything. The doctors told him that he had been in an unfortunate car accident, and his parents didn't survive. They said that his name was "Chiba Mamoru." Some people believe that Mamoru doesn't actually love Usagi - but he has stated and shown his love for her time and time again in the manga version. Mamoru is incredibly selfless, and this is shown the most in the Dead Moon Circus Arc, when he hides the fact that he has a "shadow lung", and coughs up blood. He doesn't tell Usagi because he doesn't want her to worry, and wants her to perform her duties as a senshi. He is willing to give up anything for his love.

The Soldier: Tuxedo Kamen
Due to his own forgotten past, and mysterious dreams, he searches for the Phantom Silver Crystal as the masked hero Tuxedo Kamen. At first, he is probably more of a jewel thief than anything else, but Sailor Moon sees him as her savior and a heart-throb. Even though he might've been considered an enemy to the other senshi and Luna, Tuxedo Kamen did nothing but help Sailor Moon when she needed him. Even after he figures out Usagi's identity, it seems that he is even more prompted to help her. As they discover the love they share, Tuxedo Kamen becomes more dedicated to her than ever. Although he doesn't have any "real" attacks or powers in the beginning, he eventually is granted two attacks. Even so, he sometimes feels like he's powerless, and that Sailor Moon doesn't need him. But in the Dead Moon Circus arc, he learns that the Golden Crystal Helios is searching for is inside of him, and that was the power that Sailor Moon felt every time they combined their powers.

The Past: Prince Endymion
Once upon a time, there was a kingdom on the moon ruled by Queen Serenity. The era was known as the Silver Millennium, and the heir to this paradise was Princess Serenity who would always gaze longingly at the blue planet, and she would often sneak down to visit Prince Endymion. However, he people of the Moon and the Earth were not allowed to have contact with one another; but it was already too late. They had already fallen in love. Before their love could be realized, both of their kingdoms were struck by one disaster after another, and the Dark Kingdom eventually invaded the Moon Kingdom after it had consumed Endymion's kingdom on Earth. In the last moments of Prince Endymion life, he died protecting her. Princess Serenity's sorrow was so great, she committed suicide by plunging the Stone Sword into her heart. Thanks to Queen Serenity and the powers of the Silver Crystal, he was born to be with his beloved once more.

The Future: King Endymion
The Prince of the Silver Millennium and the King of Crystal Tokyo is the future self of Chiba Mamoru. Once he and his beloved, Tsukino Usagi, was crowned in the twenty-first century, all of Crystal Tokyo was blessed with extremely long life-spans and the ability to stop aging after they reach maturity. When Neo-Queen Serenity had turned 22, she gave birth to the crown princess, Princess Small Lady Serenity, they had stopped aging. Together, he and his wife watch over Crystal Tokyo using their Silver and Golden crystals. In the Black Moon Clan Arc, King Endymion's body had been put into a comma, and the first time he meets his past self and Sailor Moon, he is but a phantom of the real thing. He is a man who has a vast amount of wisdom, and seeks to bring happiness and peace to his people and Crystal Tokyo.
