Hino Rei is a girl with mysterious powers, and prefers to stay aloof. She doesn't like to watch television very much, and she lives as a Miko (priestess) at the Hikawa(1) Shrine with her grandfather, the arch priest And because of her relationship with her father, she has come to hate men with a passion. Because of her father's standing in life, she is able to attend the T.A. Girls' Academy and "doesn't have to study!" But because of her powers as a miko, she was often shunned from other girls who were scared or jealous of her abilities to see into the future. However, that all changed when Usagi came to the temple investigating the demon bus. Although their relationship had a rocky start, Rei quickly became good friends with Usagi to the point where they would constantly bicker. As the series continues, Rei always posses a strong personality, and uses her psychic abilities to help her friends and to defeat the enemy. And although she has considered becoming a full-time priestess, her strong sense of duty allows Rei to fulfill her dream of becoming a strong senshi.

The Soldier: Sailor Mars; Super; Eternal
With the protection of Mars, the senshi of flame and passion is known as Sailor Mars. Whenever an enemy is nearby, she is one of the first senshi to know because of her sharp senses. However, when she first meets the Senshi she always tends to be aloof, and tries to act on her own accord. However, she quickly turns around and becomes an irreplaceable member of the team, and she is also second-in-command amongst the guardians of the Moon Princess. She is also infamous for having many powerful offensive attacks, and for using her Shinto abilities to attack enemies as well. One of the hardest trials for Sailor Mars was during the Mars Dream Act in SuperS, when Tiger Eye questioned her dreams of becoming a senshi. However, Mars knew that she would never fall for just any man (seeing as she has no interest), and gained new powers as a senshi. She is always willing to go the distance for Sailor Moon, even when it looks the bleakest.
The Past: Princess Mars
During the Silver Millennium, Princess Mars resided within the PhobosDeimos Castle. She was also one of the four guardians to the Princess. She was most likely very protective of her princess, and probably tried to make sure she fulfilled all of her duties. In one colored art picture by Naoko, she is depicted as having some sort of relationship with Jadeite, but there is no other solid information regarding these two as an official couple. Unfortunately, during the Dark Kingdom's attack on the moon, she was killed by Queen Metallia. Queen Serenity, the ruler of the Silver Millennium, used the last of her power to reincarnate the fallen Senshi into the future.
